Advice on C350 CDI

Hi,

I had a look at my first car today, it was only 2 miles from me.

Here is the advert.

The car was great to drive, but there was some lag in E mode when putting my foot down. I couldn't work out where there was £5000 worth of extras. The interior was spotless, and the car mats are in the boot.

Here are probably some negative comments. All four tyres need replacing, which the dealer said they would do, there appears to be some lip age on the disks, indication of some hard driving. The rear bumper has some scuffs, where someone has been dragging some items into the boot.
I was looking for something with about 50-60k on the clock, so this one is a little higher than I was looking for. The colour, was looking at black.

What is anyone else's thoughts on this one. Was going to contact Mercland and see what they could source.

I don't understand why you would put COMAND and Memory pack (Seats) in but not Leather??????

Also only on 17" wheels

Could it be just personal choice, or could they have been removed? Other than that does it look ok? Mercland did say call them when I am ready to find something. For me I like the memory heated seats but no too worried about the leather.

Lovely car, probably £2k over my price range. Would have to save up more cash.

I bought mine from a private seller, just make sure you have the VIN decoded, and get the service history from MB, you can do this by calling the last dealer it was serviced by and ask.

It has just been serviced so get copies of all receipts

Go over it with a fine tooth combe and if anyone near you has a Carsoft scanner ask if you can borrow it

How do you decode a VIN?
Are there always receipts from a service? The sales chap today didn't have any receipts with the car, and just said they were all electronic.
I don't know anyway with a Carsoft scanner. Would this backup the service history?

Get the VIN off the seller, you can get an app for your phone "MB VIN Decoder" that will do it for you

You don't get receipts but the garage that serviced it last will be able to tell you, the current owner can request paper copies

Ok thanks that is very helpful. I don't think the chap at the sales office was hiding anything, i just think he knew bugger all about the car/history.
This private car you found is 180 miles from me, but if it's a good example I can make the distance. I am based in Stroud, Gloucestershire.
As someone that has not had to buy a car for over 14 years I am very paranoid about buying a duff one.
Even though I had a short test drive, it was great to drive, so I think I am hooked on the C350CDI. I was going to look at a few A4 Quattro's, but won't bother.

As someone that has not had to buy a car for over 14 years I am very paranoid about buying a duff one.

I travelled 160 miles to buy mine, checked it all out and everything was good so I bought it.

Says on the private one it has FMBSH so easy to get it and as it has just been serviced that is a cost you don't have to bear

I've just spoked to the guy, sounds great on the phone, last service was 22nd April on that costs £750. if I travel up he is flexible with price. have the VIN number - WDD2040232A851861 ENGINE NUMBER 64283441420053. Also have the previous grarage details.

OP take JBell's advice and you won't be far wrong. That one looks a good un.

There may well be paper copies of the service record with the car, some MB dealers put a folder in the car or give it to the driver. Ask the owner if he has the folders, if not ask them to get them from the dealer who recently serviced it. Should't be a show stopper.
