Help please! for the sake of sleep :(

For the past week the alarm has been going off at night for no reason, at first it was once a night, then twice and last night was the worst, 7 times! and today while rob was in work it went off again.

I cant see anything out of place in the car, all windows are shut tight, nothing inside the car (although at first i thought it might of been the spider i evcivted) Iv taken the mesh guard down as i thought maybe that could of been it.

no one is near it, and it just keeps going off!
I think i had all of about 3 hours sleep last night due to the blasted thing and im very sure the rest of my street arnt hving much sleep due to it as well.

It was fine through out the colder weather, but since the heat has come.... that and since we got rammed (drivers door and wingmirror, but its all being fixed monday :D )
im thinking maybe a wire somewhere? i just dont know and it really is getting to me now. i dont want to have to turn off the alarm, but it is getting that way.

could anyone here be of some help?

Thanks
Mazz

99 times out of 100 it is the siren that has failed, you can just unplug it or replace it

but only at night?
that could be the reason behind why the red merc dont make a noise, it just flashes you.

ok, must have a look and see if i can find where it lives and unplug till i get a new one.

Check the bonnet alarm switch… wherever it might be located?... might need adjusting, just another possible cause.

Only at night is an odd one, but is it the case that it has been locked up longer

You could check for spiders in the sensors

you would think that, but thats not the case, as im more awake and about at night then the day, the longest it gets locked up for is when Rob takes it to work.

spiders in the sensors??? i take it that has nothing to do with the 8 legged things.

Yes the 8 legged ones, they may only come out at night ;)

As it is warmer weather - this is something my Alfa used to do:

If it was left in direct sunshine all day then at some stage during the night it would go off - leave it in shade and it was fine.

I never fully understood why but assumed it was something to do with the different rates at which the different materials cooled down, fooling the alarm into believing there was a moving 'body' of heat.

Try moving to shade or putting some sunshades in and see if it makes a difference. Alternatively, as you can in mine, see if you can turn the interior motion sensors off (button on the dash looks like a car with 'waves' in it)

Nine out of ten its the siren faulty, it is located in drivers side front wheel arch, remove wheel and arch liner, it's on the left in a metal frame, just unplug it, has two rechargeable batteries inside which leak, they can be replace, about six quid each from Maplins, seeing as the siren is a sealed unit you have to hacksaw it open by cutting round the seam, either leave it unplugged, downside is no audible alarm, or source one from E Bay, mine was £25-00.

I agree in most cases its the siren but if its not, then you've wasted your time and money.

Just had same problem with my c220 cdi. Alarm situated in passenger side front wheel arch at rear. Need torx set to remove siren. I just cut through bolts holding mine to bracket, and replaced with normal bolts. It all started with siren going off over night and would flash repeatedly occasionally when unlocking during shopping trips etc. Ended up leaving car unlocked overnight, so not to annoy neighbours. Eventually found siren and disconnected it. Problem went away but no audible alarm if i tried setting it off. Eventually got one off ebay, for 30 pounds. then i cut open the old one to see if i could repair. Batteries had leaked inside and corroded the circuit board. Anyway start by disconnecting siren, its not going to cost you anything but time if you do it yourself.

right ladies, the car has now been parked up outside the front of the house for just under 12 hours, nothing has happened.
rob shook the car like mad to try and set the alarm off, but to no avail.

We think it might not like bein parked away from the house (we have street parking)...
if this is the case, then this car is way to clinngy for its own good!

Ok, Yeah, this car is way to clingy for its own good!
It was fine all through the night and then at 5am it went off to wake rob up ready to go to work,
now the tricky part..... to always somehow try and keep a space at the front of the house...

Will also get merc to check it over on monday incase somehting got damaged when we got hit.

Alarm kept going off - Auxilary Battery (Second Battery)

My Alarm kept going off, siren and emergency flashers). I had left the car at the marina over the weekend. Upon return from trip, the car was dead. The starter battery was over 6 years old, so I replaced it. This solved nothing, so I just removed the #8 Fuse. This left me with no alarm and manual entry, a big pain. a month later the red "Battery" warning light started coming on, I was puzzled.
I finally did the research...... the car has a second battery, an auxilary battery. It's under the hood, under the big lable that says "Battery in Trunk". Nope, there is a battery under there too, part # MB211 541 00 01. It's a 12 volt (motorcycle size battery), and costs about $140-$150 from the dealership.
My existing battery only had a 8volt charge, and would work during the day, but drain and activate the alarm at night. After installation, the alarm works, the keyless entry works, the Radio picks up channels better, and the "Battery" warning went away.

Advice, test the Auxiliary Battery for a 12volt charge. Hope this helps many :)

PS.

Last year had the same. Problem was the micro switch on the bonnet close.
