Because of the new ULEZ rules coming in next year, it will cost too much to drive into the M25, so I've been thinking to selling on and moving to petrol. I still want the same performance, and really wanted to stay with MB, but I am limited to what I can get. For not too silly money, I've been thinking of a 2013-2014 E400 coupe, but I know very little about them and reliability. Are there are any other models that I could consider, not wanting to spend more then £17k?

Wow, that is very nice. I've got to make a serious decision after the new year. They seem to look a lot more modern than the W204.

I’m still thinking the Mayor will have to backtrack on the outer ULEZ extension next year

It's needs to, all these families with diesel cars, and many cannot afford to change up.
My brother in law has been able to buy my sister a ID4 for 230 a month through the company scheme where they pay no tax. Apparently a deal was made with the Mayor!

You could always use the bus @£2 per journey (single only) subsidised by our very thoughtful government lol.

Seriously though if the price is right the E400 is a nice package you might have to visit the petrol station more frequently though all round a better alternate to derv

I am normally wrong on any big political guess though ;)

I indeed owned one a few years back, having made the similar change from diesel (E350) thanks to our great Government!!
Solid engine and performance to match. (looks very understated until driven!!)
Nice touches as standard, Keyless entry, Pan roof and auto high-beam assist. Think mine was the same colour as photo, but had crimson red leather!
Just be aware of the alloys. They tend to suffer from poor laquer and 'white-worm'. Apart from that, a truly great car!

Thanks for your feedback. They do look very nice indeed.

I've got the A207 but the coupe is based on the same W204 platform. I've had for 6 years and it has been a great car. The coupe is a very handsome motor that's dated very well I think, with nice lines including the flared arches. Bizarrely, my M273 engine is ULEZ compliant. I simply could not believe it! Good look in your search, something will come up.

Thanks. It's early days yet. My wife's car is ULEZ compliant, but we really need both cars to be going forward. I'm in no rush, have only been seriously thinking about this for the last few weeks.

I forgot to add, they have a great bodyline, as they are a 'pillarless' coupe! Great in the summer!!!

Lovely cars (loved my C207), but you better practice some "defensive parking" as those doors are very long :)

Ha yes, the doors are monsters and extremely heavy. Best to park, as I say, 'out of town' i.e. an end space where possible or as far as you can in a quiet bit of an otherwise busy car park! Can help with dooring issues too.

As I do with the BMW coupe but then you get harassed by the learner drivers trying to bay park lol

£17k is a lot of money to splash on the faith that Khan won’t change the rules.

I’m considering buying something like a Smart or Toyota IQ to nip into London. £30 tax, 50mpg, cheap maintenance, easy to park, don’t care if it gets beaten up.

These low tax on certain cars is just a temp measure I am sure.
Once the masses are converted (by force) the tax will rise. The govt has to balance the books.
eg If a person goes from a car costing 350 tax to 30 thats a shortfall of 320 per car. multiply that by a few million and thats a sizeable shortfall in the govt coffers
