CL600 (W216) 2006
After my last failure to be impressed by a possible CL600 purchase (on another thread), I am now looking at another, which I mentioned in passing on the other thread. See http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mercedes-...044152?hash=item4b033f8eb8:g:B0cAAOSwZ1BXdkAp
It's 2006 so a very early 216 - were there any issues with those? Also I don't much like the stick-up star on the bonnet - obviously aftermarket - and the interior walnut appears to have lost a fair bit of gloss. Apart from that it looks pretty good, I think. Anyone know this car? Any comments?

Eww, get rid of the bonnet star ASAP- one should NEVER double-star.

The interior trim can be relacquered, ask Malcolm Television who knows all about this.

Presumably the trim has to be removed to be relacquered - is it a tricky job?

I don't honestly know. Mr Television is your man to ask.

What a beast. It almost looks like the woodwork is intentionally matte, as it is so uniform. It may be possible to French polish it (or something) ? I'm not an expert, (obviously).

I think the matte finish on the wood may have been an option, seen it on a couple of CLS's in the past.

+1 probable matt finish option.

I think it looks better in matt than gloss.

The finish is a 2 pack clear coat, yes a possible option. I think the mat finish will be the burr walnut.

It is very time consuming to re coat, I have done it, and it all has to come out of the car.

I believe it is the same finish that was offered on the 215, in many respects its an easier finish to look after than the high gloss, as we have threads "how do I polish my wood trim"

I went to look at this car today. It's really excellent. A couple of niggles of course, but when are there not?

I'm pondering it. If I do buy it of course the first thing to do will be to replace the stick-up bonnet badge.

Forgot to add: the matt finish on the walnut does appear to be original as some of you thought (thank you): it's matt everywhere, even where the sun don't shine, so to speak.

They are a lovely car, good luck and the stick up bonnet badge is dead easy and cheap.

yes , its low miles for its age but that doesn't really count for anything in my book , without the V12 badges its looks like any other low spec CL , which truly is a shame as im sure its a beautiful thing to drive /be in like all 216's are

It's very expensive but we can all assume that's a starting price. The reason I'm so keen on the V12, apart from being a great admirer of that engine, is its unique (I think) combination of utter quietness and awesome power.

Also I quite like that it's a very early 216, feeling - perhaps mistakenly - that manufacturers are trying extra hard at the start of a model life.
