Might be the front impact sensor ? My E class ones are mounted on the front radiator uprights and are quite hard to spot .

Check codes first. Otherwise you're just guessing.

Agree. Seat occupancy mats are the most common thing I replace on these, but I wouldn't do a thing without a read of the codes first.
The occupancy mats are very common. In my experience most of the problems occur with someone kneeling on the front seat to talk to children or pets in the back of the car. The occupancy mats are designed for a bottom, not a knee. Knees tend to apply a point load which breaks the delicate ribbon used in the construction of the mat.

Other common issue is pulling connection when putting seat back and forth, especially if something has found its way under the seat. Without codes though you don't even know which side.

Had a look under the drivers seat, think I found the issue. There's a cable there which has been caught and cut. It has two wires inside one is grey and one is green. Next to it is another think black cable. I'm guessing the other is for the seatbelt as the seatbelt still dings if I take my belt of whilst driving.

I've a few questions, wonder if anyone knows the answer

1) Is this cable with two wires, green and grey, for the drivers side occupancy sensor?
2) I can see one end under the seat has a connector, however I've not managed to get all the trim off to chase it to the chair, would the other end have a connector or would it be hard wired?
3) Once I fix the cable or replace, will I need to get the car on a computer to reset the SRS code?

I've worked out it's for the deployment part of the seat belt buckle.

I've repaired the cable as it doesn't detach from the deployment unit however the SRS light is still on so it seems the SRS needs resetting after repair.

Yes pretty much anything SRS related needs codes clearing.
