On a canister oil filter, does the job but knackers the oil filter. No good on Merc plastic cap oil filters.
You can get MB type oil filter removal tools on ebay for most models
Have a look at this, 3/8 ratchet drive.
Have a look at the reviews and decide yourself
The one i sent fits over the filter top perfectly but according to the reviews, it will only last a couple uses, whereas the one you posted has to be tightened over the filter.
You can choose either, they will both work.

Thanks for your replies.
The Laser one is 76mm. on my Merc W204, I think it's 74mm.
Could be wrong.
Autoaddict Take the size across the flats from your new filter before fitting it and buy from ebay i think mine was £5
Ordered thanks for all your help.
I believe it is 74mm in yours
That is by no means a universal oil filter removal tool.
With oil filters that have a removable outer case with a large nut on the top, the three jaws do not have enough depth to grip the case, because the nut gets in the way.
My favourite tool is made from a strip of safety belt fixed in a loop to one end of a large box spanner. Turn the spanner to grip the filter. Works well.
Some engines dont have room to fit the universal tool So the cap type is best .
