Been in for a service recently as mine is booked in the second week of January (the first one was done in December 21 but I’ve just had a new knee and only started driving again Christmas Day). And I’ve been told it needs 3 recalls done and the chap on the phone mentioned about the high voltage cable harness and wondered if this is the update that’s putting the charge rate down to 3.5 kw instead of the 7 kw it’s charging at now. I will ask when I take the car in and if so could they turn around and say it has to be done due to warranty on the car. All my changing is done at home so don’t want to go down on the kw rate.

If they are recalls they are recalls (certain components not up to the job). They differ from warranty which is when something fails within a guarantee period.

Neither should cost you anything. they may find an unrelated fault in the vicinity and say - shall we change that whilst here - it will be cheaper - call me a cynic but I think its a ploy to negate losses while doing jobs that don't pay.

From what I’ve read on here it’s a software update that reduces the home charging rate

Software updates.... Research carefully I think ur right to be blxxdy cautious. Ask for "in writing" exactly what the update is going to do. And understand all that before u go near the dealer.
I use an oil burner and I going no where near any update until circumstances force me to. I will be trying to move it on in next month. Today it has NO indicated faults. TOMORROW who f knows!!!!!

I’d move the OBD port if I were you and replace with a “fake one” you can get ones that even have power so appear to be the real thing.

Let’s face it if we all bought an EV and plugged it into the grid pulling 7kW the local sub station would be overloaded obviously something the government and car manufacturers don’t want to talk about

My software downgrade was done prior to the safety recall for the high-voltage wiring harness but if you haven’t been in for a while, you probably missed the 7kw to 3.5kw downgrade. They will insist on doing it anyway or the warranty will not be valid.
They have miss sold many vehicles on this basis and refuse to acknowledge or do anything about it. I know of one member intending to reject a vehicle on this basis. Personally, this is the last MB I (or my companies) will acquire.
*edit: sorry, just realised you appear to have an EQC400 but exactly the same issues on my 2021 GLE 350de

What sort of timings does a 3.5 KW charger give for empty to full?

I have only heard of this 3 phase to 1 phase limitation on the plug in hybrids. I don't think the GLC is affected.

Update
Well the car went in and I mentioned the update reducing the charge rate and he said he would find out as he wasn’t sure what it did and said they wouldn’t do it if it did affect the charging rates and it wouldn’t affect the warranty. Turns out it’s upped the charging so I could now charge at 11kwh at home if the charger allowed but it doesn’t. So it’s gone from 32amps to 48amps single phase. The car is on charge and is still at 7kwh The other two were for the suspension and wiring harness in the steering column.
