Hi All.
My next door neighbor has a c200 which I believe is of 1997 vintage and he has a problem with the auto box. It seams to be stuck in top gear and will not engage any of the lower gears even when you manually select them.
When I went to check the oil level there was no dipstick in the tube??????????
I was a mechanic for a number of years but my Mercedes experience is limited, how can I check the oil level?

Just test drove it and it's stuck in ether 1st or 2nd

Thanks for that, I've been reading more of the threads on here and it looks like I'm not alone.

Do you know if the fault codes can be ckecked by the "blink" method or do the have to be checked with a computer?

Blink codes may be able to do it, but I dont think this covers the gearbox
