Automatic transmission fluid change ?

Has anybody had their ATF changed ? A friend of mine had his ATF changed in his 10 year old Mercedes & told me it was a lot smoother through the gear changes.

I had mine done a few months ago as my SL was 13 years old, and yes it made a huge difference in smoothness of gear change.

Merc have it as a service requirement at 37,500 miles apart from the very newest cars which may be at 70k ? .

mine actually got a lot worse... however it essential you do it and still glad the black burnt filth that came out was changed.

For independent Merc garages about 200-250 quid depending on 5 gear or 7 gear auto box . Main dealers probably 300-350 quid .

I drive a Merc 270 clk cdi but I'm not sure which box it has in it the 5 or 7 speed

count the changes .....

or knock down a gear while in manual on the motorway .. what ever the number that the dash then shows, add one! ;-)

DIY can be as low as 50 quid. You have to get lucky on the ATF, though.

If you have a gearbox dipstick tube in the engine bay it is 5g , if you don't it is 7g gearbox that is filled from under the car
