BAS/ASR warning lights on

I am a new owner of a E300TD on the way to work the warning BAS came on I pressed the"R" button to clear from the screen. The fault cleared but came back upon every start up. read through "threads" on this site and repaired the fault for £9. It was a brake light switch, which I fitted myself.
