Hi all

My car often doesnt get driven for 2-3 weeks at a time. Sometimes a month or more.

I find that the battery is too flat to start the car over these long periods. I would like to preserve the life of the very expensive new battery, so I bought a battery isolator. It sits in the negative lead and is a switch basically.

Problem is that I cannot lock the doors If I isolate the battery.

If I lock the car with the door open, then isolate the battery, the alarm goes off.

Any ideas?

Just had a rather obvious thought. Turn the alarm off before locking the car and it wont go off?

My car has a dash cam that continues until the battery voltage drops to a preset limit. So it's already lost some aH before it shuts down, if I leave it a few weeks it starts straight away.

Maybe you just need a new battery.

What about some light wire leads going to battery terminal and a small spare battery. Connect leads to battery terminals. Isolate main battery. Close bonnet and doors. Connect spare battery to leads and lock all doors. Remove spare battery and hide leads under wheel arch. Just a thought.

Its a new battery, I have a ultragauge and a car pc that drains some power. The car pc 5v rail is always live, so 3 or so weeks of that and its dead.

You can lock all the doors individually with the battery disconnected

After disconnecting the battery, get inside the vehicle and push the locks down manually. Then get out the vehicle via the driver's door and lock it using the manual lock (metal part of the key)

This one worked best.

Disconnect the battery then press down all the door locks. Sorted! :)
