I have a four year old E280CDI auto. Local dealer says auto transmission oil should be changed every three years. MB London say change once at 37,500 miles.

Two other sources, one a very reputable auto transmission specialist say the y are sealed for life !!!!!!!

Anyone know who is correct?

Thanks

BJ

MB London are out of date,,some 5 years ago it has been agreed that the fluid and filter should be changed at every 40k miles.

That old 37k miles thing was only for cars that were on assist

The only thing you can hurt changing the ATF every 40k is your wallet!

I'm sure the 'box will appreciate a change and will swop cogs more smoothly.

But it doesn't hurt as much as a broken transmission

Used to be sealed for life on the 5 speeds. Never was on the 7 and they changed their minds on the 5's when they started blowing up prematurely.
Mine was done at 40k per spec by the dealer and I've just had it done again at 110k.
Probably not essential but nice to know its running on nice clean stuff.
