Buying a pre 1983 diesel estate

i need some advice on price, what to look for, pitfalls, etc.. as i am wanting to buy an old merc estate, late 70's early 80's ideally.

doctor,
you should look @ body rust!!!! check along the body trim and wheel wells and the floor board. Sometimes these old cars fall apart before they stop running. search the site, I'm sure there are other threads on this.
