LOts of posts about this but to be honest whilst the cars aren't the grippiest in the snow they are still perfectly usable. Its a combination of willingness and a touch of skill, thats all.

"The cars aren't the grippiest in the snow" is a bit of an understatement. They're about the worst you can get. Whether they are "usable" or not is a matter of what type of snow you're driving in, what the temperature is and what tyres you've got. "Skill" always is a factor of course but if you have no grip at all (which happens sometimes with these cars) it counts for nothing. All you can do is turn the ESP off (to try and get going) and try various throttle openings fairly gently to see if you can get going. Lower tyre pressures definitely help (I know some say that they don't but maybe they haven't tried doing this).

To get round the problem you can get winter tyres - but this may involve buying new wheels and some insurance companies call this a modification. Another possible alternative is to get all-season tyres (e.g. Vredestein Quatrac). These are not as good as winter tyres but they're much better than standard tyres in snow and don't involve too much of a compromise in summer.
