Hi Dean,

I have just got a C220, it is fitted with the AMG 17" staggered size option wheels, front 7.5" rear 8.5"
The tyres are 225 45 17 front, 245 40 17 rear and the diameter of the tyres is about 639 mm.

Just had a look in my tyre book and the smallest diameter listed for 19" tyres is 655mm for 275 30 19. and the narrowest option, 245 35 19, is 661 diameter!

My 245 40 17 tyres only just clear the body work at the back, you may be pushing your luck with anything wider and/or larger diameter, and that's ignoring what it might do to the speedo calibration and ABS, traction/stability control etc

Not to mention the ride, road noise and potential for pothole damage.

I is old and scared tho!

I changed my S204 from 16" to 17" wheels a couple of years ago, not regretted it for an instant. Ride is more precise and less wallowy, yet still very comfortable (even SWMBO as passenger or driver prefers them!). Also switched from Contisports to Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetrics, the Contis were noisy, the Goodyears are whisper quiet and wearing well, also good grip wet and dry.

Personally I would not go bigger than 17", running on rubber bands would be bad for my kidneys as well as my wallet!!
