unlucky. you are unlocking with the infrared remote aren't you?? the module you posted the part number for (ifz unit) needs to see the car unlocked, as i said, before it will send the signal to the ecu (on the green wires) to authorise the start. this is obviously where the dealer fitted immobiliser was wired in as a secondary immobiliser - these are prone to fail for reasons i will not go into, and usually the problem.

Yep
Lock and unlock using the key remote. Red light comes on when locked then the green when i unlock. The red lights flash after the car is locked and keep on flashing which is normal I hope
I've always used the key remote.
So what do I do now. Is it the mirror with the lights in thats now at fault ?.

sorry i cannot be definative here, i would need to do tests on your car and double check the function paths etc, but i suspect the ifz is at fault. do you have more than 1x key?

Not a problem. I have a great Merc specialist nearby Just Merks in Newcastle upon tyne who will have the part which I will swap and hope it works. Will it need to be reset to my car or is it a straight change.
Thank you for help up to now. Really appreciated.

i think that it needs to be matched to the keys sadly. this is from memory and i have a lot of stuff in there so cannot be 100% sure.

Well,
I went to my local Merc man to get a replacement part but he didn't have the black box but recommended I try replacing the mirror first to rule this out. If this didn't work he said to bring the car to him and have it put on the diag and have the immobiliser zapped to remove it.
Would this mean the central locking would not work on the doors or would it just do away with the immobiliser / alarm.

i have no idea what he plans to do. what does he mean about zapping the imobilizer to remove it??

and i doubt the mirror will make any difference, i have seen plenty with u/s leds and everything else working.

The idea was to hook it up to the computer and disable the immobiliser completely.
I was just wondering if it would affect the central locking side as well or just the immobiliser
