C250 Tds (p Reg 1997)

Hi guys, i am a new member and wonder can anyone help,
I have just bought a 1997 C250 TDS, its in pretty good nick, came with history but no owners guide or owner detail, it seems to run smoothly enough but when ignition is turned on the glow plug light illuminates and goes out ok, car starts ok but glow plug light comes back on on starting and remains on for approx 30-40 seconds? can anybody enlighten me so to speak?

Hi & Welcome,

When the glow plug light comes back on again after starting it is an indication that one or more of the glow plugs have failed. These can be a little tricky to replace as it is quiet easy to snap them off in the head. Pls have a search on the forum as this has come up many times.

would this be a definite diagnosis as i intend contacting the dealer tomorrow, monday. this is my first venture into diesel and don't want to appear foolish.

any idea as to the cost involved in changing the glow plugs, and how will i know which one/s are faulty?

also another quick question, the air/ac button has a red l.e.d in the middle, when ac is on, is the led illuminated or not, the button is marked EC?

The button is for Economy, when the light is on the AC is OFF.

As for the glow plugs an Independent MB specialist should be able to tell which ones are faulty by the diagnostic system. However since one (or more) may be faulty you may as well replace the lot in one go.

As previous all has been covered many times so a search on the forum will get you much more advice.
