I'm in the process of making a happy return to benz ownership (hopefully). After owning a 123 series 200 (1983) and a 230c (1979) I've had several years now with other brands and wish I hadn't. I did't fall out with mercs, just never got round to getting another!
I'm considering buying a 1994 C280 auto saloon. 105000 miles, service history including M.O.T.s. It seems fine mechanically, bodywork = good.
Are there any obvious problems to watch for that I'm not aware of. Fuel consumption isn't a particular worry (after Hilux surf!!! 20-22mpg of late).
Read about possible wiring loom probs on forum.
Car drives very well, responds nicely and gearbox seems ok.
Cheers Yhandi.

I have one, so definitely a good buy from me

Only probs so far, in 70,000 miles over 5 years, were the OVP relay, and a fan belt tension damper, and the duovalve for the heater, and most expensively, a faulty spark plug.
Other stuff entirely routine brakes, tyres and a fan belt.
The vacuum adjuster on the lights has just fritzed, but looks like an easy and cheap fix.
MPG-wise I can get 33 and better on the continent at a steady 90+. In town here I get about 26.
It still drives and feels like a new car, despite being 12 years old and 110 k up. That speaks for itself.

Cheers for that Myros.
I'll go ahead and buy then.
Just got a bit paranoid that there may be some obvious problem.
The car felt good to drive.
What about the body ?
Excessive rusting etc?

The C-class of that age does not suffer from serious body rust, usually just a bit of bubbling around the wheel arches and the bottom of the boot lid, but no perforation problems.
