Hello:

Has anyone done Automatic Transmission job on their own? Any ideas,
suggestions.

I know it is a BIG job and may not be possible to do at home without
lot of special tools.

I have a little problem with the reverse gear. It makes kharrrrrrrrrrrr
noise when I back up sometimes. I had gone to a tranny guy and
he said that may be the reverse piston broke. Once when I had
done a tranny oil change, I had found a small piece of aluminium
at the bottom of the oil pan. The forward is just fine. I try to
minimise the use of the reverse gear.

Thanks in advance,
Arv.

It is the automatic transmission making the noise. It's been making this
noise in reverse gear since 2001, so I have been using it to very minimum.

Thanks in advance for your help,
Arv.

Have one here for when its cold, it says that is normal when the primary pump makes a sucking noise when box is cold, do check the fluid level.

That is the only one listed

Thanks Malcolm.

The tranny makes khrrrrrrrr noise anytime, when it is hot or cold, doen't
matter. Like the tranny guy told me, do you think it could be the reverse
piston broken and that's why it is making this noise? Something
definitely broke inside my auto tranny because I did find an aluminium
piece of about 1.5 sq cm size during an oil change. I guess I am just
going to use it till it finally stops working one day.

Have you rebuilt a auto tranny before? What kinda tools are needed?

Thank you for your help,
Arv.

Erm you should fix it now, rather than wait until it stops working.

Fixing it now might cost you a few hundred quid. Waiting for it to die might cost you upwards of a grand.

Not a difficult decision.
