Hi,

Am hoping someone can help, Mercedes dealership have just told me that the camshaft solenoid seal on my merc c class 200 is broken and oil is leaking through the wiring and will soon contaminate the main control unit (the brain of the car apparently)

They are charging a fortune to fix and i wanted to get a feel for a what other experts feel is a reasonable price to fix this issue.

Also, if anyone know any specialists in the North West London area that are reliable then please let me know.

Your help is much appreciated

Thanks

Dont let them do it,there are good indies that can do this, the loom will need to be replaced but thats all,you can get it done for a fraction of the price.

Welcome to the forum, some answers will come in later in the day

You should only need the magnet held on with 3 allen bolt's i put mine on myself there is a loom mod that fit's between magnet and main loom to prevent future contamination if you have no engine warning light on you should be ok. Mine had to have a lambda sensor as well so had to be reset

I can help with your problem.

You may need a new loom but it depends how bad it is.

Maybe this is the right time to ask about this...

Is there a similar mod for my 1999 CLK 230 K?
In another post I mentioned the fact that there is a leak from under (behind) the magnet but as yet no engine warning lights & no signs of oil elsewhere in the general area.
So my question is.. do I just pull the magnet off and replace the seal or do I need to order a new magnet which will come complete with the required seal.
Plus... Do I need to ask my local dealer for a certain mod part number?

You will need to replace the magnet and the seal in the centre (this is not the seal that leaks by the way)
The loom mod is called a STARTER LINE and just fits between magnet and original loom
Have got part numbers but my car is a C200K
check with dealer for your car

Thanks very much for your input. Much appreciated.

If anyone else has more info... fire away.
It would be nice if I could drop into my local Portuguese Mercedes dealer and quote a part number for a mod.
