Got up this morning to find the Merc bonnet vandalised with fluorescent yellow paint! (Just refinished recently too). Had the temerity to walk 30 yards up the drive to do it too. Would I have any of your votes if I started a 'Bring Back the Birch' Political Party? Or do you subscribe to this modern, politically correct, go as you please, do what you like and to hell with anyone else society?
Off up to my painter now to see if it can be recovered without another repaint.
(Might it have been a Frenchman who knew I was a rugby fan?)

Well, speaking as someone whose local tube is the one where Tom ap Rhys the lawyer was recently stabbed to death for no apparent reason you don't need to think too hard to work out where my views lie.

Recently the police have introduced metal detectors at some of the tube stations worst affected - a policy apparently approved of by the entire community EXCEPT

(1) young men carrying knives
(2) people concerned that searching potential muggers and murderers will hurt their feelings/will fail to take into account what a hard life they have had/etc etc etc.

The onus of guilt has magically been transferred to the law abiding citizen. So if I get stabbed it's my fault for provocatively wearing a suit and not showing "respect" to to the guy with the knife. Tom, you are obviously in the wrong for working hard and buying a Merc. You have upset someone who started bunking off school at 12 and now will be on benefits for his entire life. If only he was more understood etc etc etc

I'm so sorry to hear about this happening to your car, you must be very upset and angry about it :(

You never used to see this kind of thing happen years ago and it really does make you wonder how kids are brought up these days.

These boards are a great place to escape politics - am just a tad right of centre. Hopefully the yogurt weavers and PC brigade are on their way out.

Could not agree more with AF apart from the 12 year old will not be on benefits all his life, the crack cocaine may reduce expectancy a little.

Bad luck mate, but to me that sounds personal. You don't go around carrying tins of paint in your pocket on the offchance.

If you're lucky it should be possible to remove it and just relaquer.

Yoghurt weavers - love it :)

The thing is that the debate about, for example, stop and search originally had a point in the 70's when individuals were repeatedly harassed and intimidated by the famous "rogue cop". This caused a lot of issues for individuals and caused needless resentment which undermined the initial effort. So far so good. But the pendulum has now swung sooooo far the other way that it's utterly ridiculous. These kid grow up know they can get away with abusive behavour again and again and again. I'd never though I'd ever hear myself called "right wing" but I p****ed off at what these little ****'s get away with.

Only yesterday on the radio it was announced that teachers were to benefit from new legislation allowing them to confiscate pupils' mobiles that kept ringing.

It beggars belief that pupils and their swamp-parents were actually accusing teachers of harrassment when they told them to turn them off and to stop disturbing the lesson!!!!!

At this rate I am going to be reading the Telegraph soon and not just for the sports section

AF, don't start me on the teaching front*, Our 15 year old son was late a few times, was reported tous in a letter so I told the school to come down on hime like a ton of bricks. They actually THANKED me for being supportive of their PROPOSAL to give him a detention of ten minutes or so.

They were told to apply the absolute max and put him on report for a fortnight.

So the school have had to **** about with letters and discussions, when the Teacher should have done the job on the spot without any further reference.

My own view is that the net result in ten years time will be a country full of namby pamby non-competitive (i'm really off on one now, a school recently declared putting hands up to answer question was 'unfair' to the slightly slower kids) blatherers that will want a sixteen page risk assement carried out on their walk to the bus stop.

*that is not a slight on any member of the Teaching profession, how you do that job beats me - I have every admiration.

TOM I am so sad to hear whats happened, sounds like an airosol paint should be very thin and weak, it should T-cut off ok + if your car was waxed it wont stick that well.

Can you do anything to stop it happening again.

I can post you a real video camara free, it works and came from a garage forecourt, you do not have to wire it up, just use it as a deterant. put a PIR lamp up and you will be safe.

I think ive mentioned this before

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Wireless-Colo...860909451QQcategoryZ48632QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I can highly recommend these little beauties, I have some of these in my garage wired to a time lapse VCR. (also easily found on ebay)

After my garage was broken into and our motorbikes stolen the tape was used to secure a conviction, and we got the bikes back :)

Best 100 quid i spent.

Ive just set another one up in my friends lockup, He has his set on an infra red sensor, so it only starts recording if the PIR is triggered. Its not as yet been put to the test but so far all attemps we made to enter were recorded.

Hope this helps

I totally agree with you. A friend of mine was telling me recently how when his kids run in races at school 'everyone is a winner that competes' as they don't want to make the kids that lose feel bad. Well I went to school back in the 60's and being small I was always last in all the races, I couldn't jump over hurdles, nor could I jump high enough to catch a netball and even tennis was a nightmare as I am lefthanded. It never had any detrimental affect on me that I am aware of though.

I'm sure a lot of us can remember how schools used to be, the days when the teachers stalked the corridors wearing their caps and gowns, canes at the ready, ready to pounce on any pupil that was not where they were supposed to be.

You should be on commission Mercmonkey - just purchased one, will replace a dummy that I've had for umpteen years. The Council in its Wisdom has just decided to light up the Car park at the back of my house to look like Wembley Stadium. Delighted to hear the local lads playing footie up against the Co-op wall at 1.30AM ! Police say, its a low priority - can't utilise the manpower. Though i do have some sympathy for the Police, I might as well get new securty installed, as I suspect the lads attentions will wander to peoples moveable assets..... (These kids can be as young as ten is my guess!)

There's a full black leather Seat set from a Cosworth on ebay if you want to upgrade. Think the scammers are playing with the price though.

Howze about this evening say 9.00 or whatever? Perhaps Maldon can make it? May need to email him direct - don't know how this thing works otherwise.

Time to give the old SEL some stick on the A120.
i'll put my mobile number on the user Cp if its not on already.

Sorry to hear about your car mate. Hope you manage to retrieve the situation. As for your idea of taking the the birch to the culprit!!!!!!!
Do you not think that is a little leniant? As for the political correctness issue, I have a theory about that. If it is political theres a damn good chance that it aint correct. When people start preaching that bulls*** at me, I just reply with the word DILLIGAF. Seems to shut them up for a while.
Hope you get a result with the paint prob.
Regards
John
