Just a quick heads up really.

I needed some bits for my little 190, so wandered off to my local dealership. Oil filter, sump plug + copper washer, transmission filter + transmission pan plug etc...

I asked them for a price for oils, just as a matter of interest really. They don't do the engine oil I wanted anymore (10w40), their diff oil is ridiculously overpriced (the parts guy admitted this), yet they beat everybody on the price for ATF by a long way. As in £25 cheaper for the 6 litres I needed than the cheapest I could find.

Worth looking round I suppose, though don't ignore Mercedes themselves. :)

Oh, unless you're in a rush. They had nothing in stock but it will be there by Saturday. Having said that, the car's nearly 30 years old so I can't really complain... :D

second you on the diff oil it costed me 180quid just for 2 liters of diff oil for a w203 in fluid costs alone from the dealer, though some extra taxes were applicable but that stuff is liquid gold. and in the same boat as well they don't carry much parts in stock for older models.

Hey Arzaam,

The diff oil I acquired was from HERE, though unsure if they'd deliver as far as you or, if they did, how much it would cost.

This particular oil was recommended to me by a well respected member of the Mercedes community, and a specialist in the 190.

hi, yes the above one looks good and a good price too, at the time I couldn't find one that I would trust locally and diff oil change is something I don't intend to do again while I have the car for another 5-6 years I hope, so far in the 3 years that I had it have changed all the fluids including the ATF. I bet with the new fluids your 190 would feel like its got some renewed life or at least a peace of mind.

but at least Mercedes has the fluid, the bmw dealers are dumb as anything they don't have power steering fluid nor ATF nor diff oils in stock saying those are only on order items as its "lifetime filled". Mercedes also claims the same but at least they have the fluid at whatever the price.

Where you been Pete?

Oh, sorry, it's me that's been out of the loop for a while. :D :D :D

190E 2.5-16 Cosworth, had it a bit just getting it up to the condition I want it in really.

The E63 went to a new owner a couple of weeks back as I'd gone as far as I could go with it whilst still maintaining driveability. Ended up with 860bhp and just short of 1,000ft/lbs, so not a bad effort really. The Range Rover goes next week as well, though that's as a part exchange on my next motor, which will be a W213 E63s with lots of boxes ticked, and one I'm really looking forward to getting hold of. :)

I knew changing a few things were on the cards but I didn't know it had gone! I didn't know you had a Range Rover either! didn't you have a Jeep SRT job of some description? I'm getting really behind with things!

Had an SRT8 Jeep Pete. That's the one with the 6.1 Chrysler Hemi in it. Awesome car and a laugh a minute, but the ride was so harsh, with 20" run-flats and stiff suspension, that it was doing my back in so I decided to cut my losses. Struck lucky as it happened as a dealer gave me a really good price for it as he needed a good one for a client.

I'd been looking for a Range Rover before I bought the Jeep, so started again though this time moved the goalposts to include the 5.0 supercharged one in addition to the 4.2 I'd previously been looking for. Found a cracker down in S Wales with low miles and a massive history file so I bought it unseen on the provision that if it was a dog he could take it back. It wasn't, so I kept it.

This was just before last Christmas though it got to the stage I decided I had too many cars, so the Range Rover has to go. Got a fair price from Mercedes for it against the E63s, so I've just got to take it in next week to sort all the paperwork out. A 500 mile round trip unfortunately but never mind. :)

A 190 Cossie tried to get past me the other day near Northampton. Light metallic blue (powder blue ish)- really well looked-after it was too.

That was never a colour used on the 16v 190's. That was an 8v with a bodykit.

Agree with stwat, though I would really as he knows these cars very well. They never actually made them in anything other than four colours, in fact there were only two on the 2.3, Blue/Black & Smoked Silver. On the 2.5 another two colours were introduced, Almandine Red and Brilliant Silver.

If the one you saw was a genuine one, it would have had a paint job Craig, though I doubt someone would change the colour, so probably a clone. A lot out there pretend to be original with the body mouldings, though fail with lots of stuff, especially the interiors. I suppose that they were quick in their day, and they still keep up with modern traffic, though I'd describe it as a leisurely car nowadays and, whilst still nippy, certainly not fast.

Incidentally, I'm not 100% sure of the names of the silvers I mentioned above, though as mine's red I'm not bothered either. :D
