There is a difference bewteen anal and accurate. An SL55 for example is somewhat different to a SL500.

Forums are used as sources of information - statements as written are quoted on other forums or on web pages so it's a good idea to be as accurate as possible when discussing technical aspects.

To be honest if you were buying a new SL55 you'd know everything about that model from the exact colour to the size tyres it has - and probably be proud that it has a supercharger and 500bhp!

YES and so far this thread has been full of conjecture supposition and blind guesswork - come on get real please - or get some moderation to trim out all the inaccurate info here.

Apart from the fact that you are calling this guy a lair :( WHY would 'he' need to know that - WE might!!!! but since this guy is obviously not a MB petrol head and i would suggest we are a minority - MAYBE all he needs and wants to know is what COLOUR he wants WHEN it can be delivered and HOW MUCH!!! Mine landed on my lap and the only question i asked was "how much" I am now some six months into ownership and still have lots to learn about the car - and i have the time and the desire to find out - some people (in fact lots and lots of people) buy the car and drive it fill it with fuel and let the MB stealer deal with the rest - will you look down your nose at them too?????

Your car didn't cost £100k - maybe if you / I / anyone were spending that much you'd actually know what engine was in it

I'm not looking down on anyone - but I know when someone is talking b*****ks.

David, joining the forum to make this statement probably isn't going to endear you to others:

TRULY sorry i suggested he join here my intention was to get some more info out of the owner and hopefully see some picture or the video of the conversion process.

MY MISTAKE :(

David I don't understand why you're getting so worked up about this - the owner can defend his own car and his decisions.

Well like i said i dont agree if £100K is throw away money or lets say a bonus you dont care you just want 'the car' with the right badge(s) it is that simple.

For goodness sake look at these footballers and pop stars do you think they have any idea what they are buying - just give me the biggest fastest one with all the goodies sounds about right OR XXXX has a YYYY so i need a YYYY or a YYYY+++ too.

The fact that we all may lust after the 'right spec'd' AMG 55 and hope one day we might have one does not make us the norm. Because Malcolm looked at lots of cars until he got 'the one' is typical of people here but not out there in the big wide MB world.

SO IF and when Richard posts a picture of an AMG 55 with that number on it will you then admit you got it wrong?

I had the priviledge to drive an SL55AMG with every conceivable extra the F1 pack the Nappa leather etc,, It was £118,000 It is something I strive to have on My driveway (although the wife wants the house finished first) the reason i want one is it is the best car I have ever driven. I dont know everything about the car but that doesnt make me a BAD person! That is why I am on here to learn a bit about the cars to see from people who own them!
One day i will have one but for the right reasons. We need to trade up the SLK obviously.
My wife bought the jaguar because she liked the sound of the indicators when we had it out for a test drive!! ;) but that to her was a reason for buying it which I dont fault her for it made her happy.
So whatever floats your boat does you !!;)

This thing has gone far enough, if someone buys an MB they can do what ever they like with it, its their money, their car and their choice.

I used to belong to The RR club as you all know, there are more of those running around with the wrong bodies than any other mark, Everything from pre war with modern coachwork to post war with pre war body work. It was the in thing in the 30's and 50's to go and have a new body,to be up to date. there are bentleys converted to RR, you name it its out there, and its still big business today.

I am in the process of fitting a 2007 grill to my car, along with 2006 SL600 wheels, will I destroy the car by doing this, and will people be making rude comments, I doubt it. How about the people who have the SLR front fitted.

If I still had the room, and a tatty 129 I would have done it. its still an MB and done with MB parts.

We dont all care for our cars, the 2006 car I bought the wheels from was tatty compaired to mine, the guy had so much money he did not care or worry about it, it was flashy transport as far as he was concerned.

Some folk just drive past a garage and buy a car, without knowing what size tyres it has, and could not care less about the 0-60 mph figure, its an MB, and that is all they know or care.

They can do what they like with it but then so can people comment on it equally. Freedom of choice = freedom of speech.
