I've put new boots on the rear of my SL500 after I was getting it ready for its MOT. The near side rear has even wear across the tread till the inner edge were its gone down to canvas ! The off side showed perfect wear across the tread.
Now here's the thing. I've had similar problems with other Mercs and BMW's I've owned over the years and every time the suspension geometry was out of alignment which makes sense being the nearside. However the geometry has been checked using the wizzo 4 wheel infra red / lazer kit and everything is spot on !
So I have to assume that if its all hunky dory when static, then something is out of alignment under load and acceleration ???
Have a look at the picture, nice and even left to right then, bang ! Oops Mr Insurance / PC Plod...

That can only be bad bushes or poor alignment.

Got any speed bumps your way? As above those can cause horrid issues! I edge over them very gingerly for that reason as well as not wanting bum road abrasion !

My thoughts too. Well its MOT day tomorrow so I'll ask them to check especially in that corner

My W211 would take off the inside of the tyres due to traffic calming.
I put one wheel over the middle of the bump and one through the gap these days. Slower progress but much cheaper

No expert, but im sure i lost a front tyre (Bridgestone) in a matter of months,(identical damage) due to speed humps! Travel a different route now and on Uniroyals and no probs since......

Good thoughts chaps, I don't have speed bumps or any traffic calming round here, certainly none I drive down.

Looks like a Toe issue, you need full laser alignment on a hunter machine

Update for those interested. All geometry is spot on. Every bush and movable componant checked and all tight, spot on. So going to see what happens to new tyre over next while and take it from there.

Our W220 S Class was doing the same. Unfortunately i cannot for the life of me remember what the solution was. I want to say rear subframe bushes, but i could be wrong.
My w204 c-class likes doing that to the outer shoulder on the fronts... :/

Is the wear all round the tyre or just in one area.
