Just putting out feelers for my renewal early next month.
Got quotes from both companies and both are less than I paid last year with Hastings Direct.

Anyone had dealings with either company, especially if a claim was made?

I have seen the reviews of both and neither are great when it comes to the claims dept.
Price isn't the be all if neither deal with claims properly.

I found the cheapest companies always had the worst customer feedback and also charged high fees for any change in your policy. For example, Hastings wanted £88 to add fully comp cover for a week in France, despite advertising the policy as having cover abroad, small print showed it was only third party cover.

I've just shifted my fleet over to Privilege and must say that a) they're the cheapest by far for what I own/ where I live, and b) the easiest by far to deal with.

To take my E220 abroad it has cost me £45 for a Green Card, 3rd party was FOC.

Unsure on claims yet, however nothing can be worse than... errrr... they're Scottish, I can't remember the name now. But whoever they were, they were dreadful!!!

Those two companies are essentially the same and share many departments, so service will be pretty much identical.

The year before last I seriously fell out with Saga over price, having had two cars with them claim-free for 20 years.

I did a compare (can't remember if was via the Meerkats or Martyn Lwis) and ended up with LV who came second in the list of cheaper quotes. The premiums went up last year but by only about 2 percent - so much so that it wasn't worth checking around.

Customer service has been excellent and I've always talked to someone intelligent in UK who speaks proper English. Our daughter managed to write off her car a week ago by reversing into a post at a funny angle and we needed to lend her SWMBO's 7-seater Scenic for a couple of weeks. So I phoned LV on Saturday and it cost £15 to add her to the policy with 6 months to run. It would have cost. £10 just for a couple of weeks so a no-brainier really.

Cheers Guys.
I am getting quotes so far ranging from £216 - £1616 pa
LV, a local company to me are quoting £391.
Still to get some prices from brokers such as A -Plan.

At the moment still considering Privilege simply because of the low premium of £216.
I have another 3 weeks to decide.

With Privilege this year on both cars.
No claims on Motors but claimed on Household with Privilege, burst pipe and flood. All ok, they are part of Direct Line, who handled the claim.

I alternate between privilege and LV to keep them on there toes, play them off against each other each year and my 08 e320 sets me back about £275, service with both is great and swapping from one car to another at least once a year (twice in 2015) costs nothing with no drama

I've used both and at the moment I'm with Churchill multi car. Quite decent. Haven't had a claim with them.
I did have a claim with Privelege and it was handled quickly and efficiently but that was 6 years ago or so....

All the same company, I used to use Privilege but they took the mick with the price so I did a comparison and went to Hastings who were excellent but became too expensive so I moved again.

The trick is to compare every year then call your current provider, 9 times out of 10 they will drop to a comparable level.

This is what I usually do. I'm waiting for the renewal notice from Hastings to see what they are charging this year but it won't be better than the £234 I paid last year.

On the comparison site, Hastings come in at £265

So the day came to call Hastings and tell them their renewal quote of £367 wasn't competitive at all. At over £100 more than last year and Money supermarket offering a new client to Hastings at £265 I was going to move to Churchill or Privilege.

Hang on a minute says the guy at Hastings, I'll see what we can do for you.
Yes, you guessed it, they matched Churchill's price when I said I'd leave.
When I asked why they could do that and not offer me the best quote before I got the stock reply of Oh, the price varies from day to day bull.

So I renewed for another year at Hastings but expect the same nonsense next year. Insurance companies....don't you just love them:rolleyes:

Whichever gets me a Meerkat... ;-)

I do a check every year on every car and bike, on the 911 and Landy the renewal has been better than I could get elsewhere all the rest have provided me with a Meerkat for the kids.

When I call the current insurers to cancel the renewal they all say they can give me a better deal. I without exception tell them they had an opportunity to give me the best price already and that because they didn't give me the best price first time they've lost my business. With luck my one man crusade against higher renewals just to make more money out of drivers will mean that insurance complies will start to give more reasonable renewal quotes first time.

The annual insurance con game...I play it every year Roger:mrgreen:

The win win for the insurance companies is if you don't change your bank card they automatically debit in lots of cases, and lots of people I doubt challenge due to busy life commitments, its then renewed at a higher premium for another year...

Just had a quote from Privilege @ an amazing £153.30 :D,mind you that's £600 excess. Chris Notts came in @ £203 with £626 excess.
Just wondering what the admin charges are when you cancel as I am selling it soon.

I learnt to always cancel auto-renewal. That way you get bombarded with renewal mail and you know it must be dealt with and the reminders give you just enough time to do the comparison exercise.
