I'm a new member and my wife has a Class A140. The car has recently given her a lot of probelms. MB changed a control panel in the gear box and charged £1,500 - parts and labour. Within a day the problem re-occurred. An independent mechanic has suggested that the car has a design fault on its gearbox. Can anyone help? The car was bought brand new 5 years ago.

I've been told by MB dealer that the gear box does need to be changed and is asking for £3,800! My mechanic says that it makes the car a write-off. The warranty expired after three years in 2005. Any ideas

Have you had a talk to the ones that did the job,and the money that you have paid.

As per Malcolm, if MB charged you £1,400 and it didn't fix it I would politely tell them what to do with the bill. Since you have already paid it I would ask them for the money back then find an auto box specialist. There are quite a few recommendations on the forum.
