Hoping for help !
My Mercedes CLC 200 cdi, automatic 5 speed gearbox 722.6 , problem with 5th gear. While driving on mostly straight roads the 5th gear sleeps out of drive and as the car comes to rest it reengage it's drive and goes back to 5th. This problem may come back immediately or not at all for many miles. If I keep the car manual 4th then I can drive car normally without any problems. I read the code on a small AUTEL and it showed P 0730 - The transmission has an impermissible Transmission Ratio. It also sad Low transmission fluid level, Dirty transmission fluid, Faulty transmission shift solenoids, Open or short in the Transmission hydraulic control circuit. I also have it read at Haden of Mosley Road in Birmingham who used their star code reader which read P0730, then they changed the gearbox oil and filter, then told me to go to Driver Transmission Center in Birmingham who used their launch code reader ( file attached ), which come up with the same code 0730. They couldn't be sure where the fault lay but advised on a full gearbox recondition. I spoken to other garages and no comprehensive outcome to the fault. I would be very grateful for any suggestions or any input from anyone who has a similar problem. I am based in Worcester.

Conductor plate in trans? . Maybe try a filter n oil change you may have some cxap in the valves. Either way if ur lookin trans overhaul you will want conductor plate dtf team put speed sensors on it as well instead of one each end of trans input/output and making them an external change option.
Also look to see if oil is weeping along trans harness and getting into trans ecm. Before spending on oil, filter and or conductor plate

Hi, thanks for your reply. To start with what is the dtf team?. Hadens said there was no oil leaking and that no metal found in the old filter, Looks like the conducter plate needs to changed then,

Has the electrical plug to the gearbox been changed ?
What mileage is the car on ?

89000 miles and no the plug hasn't been changed. I specifically asked Hadens of brum to check and he said ok no trace of oil but there again after we had the oil and filter change he said best to go to driver transmissions as he couldn't read any faults in the box on his star. I had to believe him.

There is MSL in Birmingham and Mercland , Nuneaton just outside B’ham .
Hopefully someone on the forum can recommend another MB specialist more locally ?

Hi all, update on these problems. Have been to 2 more merc gearbox specialists . 1 said its the valve body and the other said maybe electrical . No further forward. I had problems on my saab which after a couple of weeks lost all battery power. I cured it not by fitting a battery then alternator but renewing the earth straps. Thinking about this i found a earth strap for the merc at the back of the gearbox, looked intact but i changed it . The car has run so far (fingers and every thing crossed) has run perfectly. Gears are smooth changing and no loss of drive in 5th. Hoping it keeps like this.
