Hi All,

As title says, I can't remove the ignition key from the lock after the cars been running, this doesn't happen every time but its getting more frequent, its as if the key doesn't turn far enough anti-clockwise to be released by the barrel.
Also the car fails to start occasional, the engine is spinning over but the fuel pump isn't running?

Thanks in advance

Possibly completey wrong here but I think Ive read about this problem before and I think it was the batteries in the key. I could be wrong!!! do you have another key to try.

This was a response from Malcolm to someone elses problem.

A few things here.

Steering will not release = wrong key or no power to EIS ign switch.

This one looks like your fault

Key can be inserted but not turned and cant be locked with remote

the cause is that the key was left in longer than 30 mins

remedy all it says is remove the key and insert again also please read owners manual

Other than this it looks like a new switch is needed, not cheap possible codes that could be erased providing there is no fault

This one could need a New EIS switch if slightly moving the wheel and gear shift do not help

Could be the EIS switch but hopefully it is not. Cost is about £400 if it is and can only be done by an MB Garage since the EIS unit needs to be re-programmed. Symptoms on my car was that the key could be inserted and removed but when inserted it did not unlock the steering and it could not be turned

Thanks guys...

I don't have a problem with inserting the key or moving it to the start position, just when I reach my destination I can't remove the key, I've tried wiggleing the steering wheel but this dosen't seem to make any differance...

Some times when the car fails to start the key stays across in the starter position after you've let go of the key, leaving the engine spinning over, but still not firing... When this happens i don't think the fuel pump is running as you can't hear it buzzing...

any more help!!!

The gear selector has to be in Park to remove the key. Could the limit switch (if that's what it is) be getting a bit worn or maladjusted?
Next time it won't release try wiggling the gear selector lever.

It won,t allow you to remove the key if you have your foot on the brake pedal either, you could just try replacing this as they are very cheap.
