Going to look at a 2000 CLK 320 cabriolet tonight. £15,500 and only done 35,000 miles but had 3 owners, should I be worried? How do I find out whether the vehicle has been subject to any warranty claims in its first 3 years, the reason I ask is that the car was purchased by the dealer in the East Midlands from another dealer in Cardiff. Just wondering if its a problem car that is getting shunted around

Thanks

If you've got a friendly local dealer, ask their servicing department to run the VIN through their computer. They should be able to tell you (verbally) what has been done to it from a warranty perspective.

I wouldn't worry too much about the number of owners - condition is paramount. Make sure everything works and that there is a full service history.

Three owners is not an issue for a 2000 car.
Is it at a main dealer?

What spec is it?

Yes, please feel free. If it hasn't got COMAND (Sat Nav etc) make sure you use that as a bargaining tool. At trade-in they will knock between £1,000 and £1,500 off, so don't pay top book! Also, is it a face-lift model?

Went to have a look. Couple of things put me off;

Fitted with cheap tyres to get it through its MOT
No test drive till you've got a deal and paid a deposit
Only offering a RAC warranty and didn't know whether the hood mechanism was covered in it

It had a couple of stone chips and a small mark on the internal rear passenger area. No comand system but was a face lift model (indicators in the wing mirrors)

They were trying to push it as being cheap for the mileage but there are others around with slightly more miles but same or cheaper. Will continue looking but have not totally dismissed it

Also I need to find a local MB specialist, anybody know of one in the Mansfield, Notts, Derby area?

Thanks

Thanks

When I was looking, I found there was plenty of choice if you were willing to do a little travelling etc. I bought mine from a garage just outside the M25 even though I live in Scotland.

Sounds like you've done the right thing to walk away - good luck and if you have any questions that Speedmaster or I can help out with, fire away.

I also live in Scotland and managed to get mine 20 mins from my house which was lucky. There are a lot of not very nice examples about but some are minted. Guess just takes a bit of time:)

Speedmaster, Brett. Thanks for your input. Will keep the search up, just hope the prices don't start rising soon due to the summer being on its way!

What running costs are you looking at ie MB specialist servicing and fuel mpg. I have a idea what I am looking at but that is only what I have gleaned from reviews on the net.

What life span are you looking at for the roof and is there any treatments required to keep it waterproof etc

Thanks

The MB hood kit for water proofing and cleaning is very good at around £20 enough for 2-3 times.

Re plastic widows. I am so fussy on what I use, after much reserch and advice from here to the states "Mothers" plastic window cleaner is supurb at £10 inc postage on the Web.

the clk cab has a glass rear window so no probs keeping it clean. I got a great product for cleaning the roof and bringing out it's colour (mine is blue). I got it off the net and is by Renvo.

I have the CLK430 and get about 14-15mpg around town and high 20's ona long trip
