Difficult to find anything here about how to adjust the mechanism that allows you to tilt a front seat down, then forward. The problem is I can't always get the handle to release the seat to tilt it down. I've taken off the cover on the back of the seat and found the one black bullet-shaped threaded adjustment screw for the headrest and the two for right and left tilt release mechanisms, which can be turned either clockwise or anti-clockwise but can never get the correct adjustment. When I think I've done it and replace the cover it sticks again! Does anyone know if there is a set routine for this - i.e. 'start by turning fully in one or another direction, then ...etc.' Or is it really trial and error?
Highly frustrating and don't really want to take it to dealer if I can sort it! Thanks.

I have sent it, you just need the last bit on how to set the cable.

Thanks, will report back (with success hopefully). I remember taking it apart once, it all worked as it should with the rear cover off & was back to usual non working mode with the cover on..

Thousands of thanks Malcolm.
Who would have guessed it was so complicated (ok, I know). But why it works (not too badly) when adjusted with the seat cover removed, but not when replaced, seems weird. Hope Litcan91 will report back.

I would hazard a guess that the cable is under strain with the back cover on, which means that it should be slackened slightly to operate properly. Although, might me completely the other way round... At least the back cover is only held on by two screws, so it's easy to get in.

Yes it does seem as though the seat back is influencing this problem.

Done it at last! Secret seems to be to turn adjustment screws on cable certainly not more than one complete turn at a time (either clock or anti-clock) and do one side at a time until you're sure that side is released. It takes patience and you need to remember if you're going clockwise or not - i.e. upwards turn or downwards turn.

I tried that, dint work for me, but the headrest cable is connected to the side that gets stuck too - wonder if that could be causing an issue somehow.

You're right. Tried it again today and back to sticking! Yes, I'll have a go at centre headrest cable too and see if it does anything - pl. report back if you find further.

I've not had the time to have a look at mine again, but will report back if I do so. Have you had any luck with the adjustment of the headrest cable?

I feel as the release isn't catching the mechanism to unlock the seat to tilt forward, right side is perfect, the issue is on the left - seems to be too difficult to get to the actual mechanism itself to see what the issue is.

Malcolm

A gentle bump...

I have a free weekend and a stick drover seat, so if you could find 5 minutes to send me a copy of the adjustment details it would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

This may be nothing to do with any of the problems on this post, but for others reading it may be worth noting that...

The front seats on the CLK 209 (certainly on mine anyway) will tip forward any time the lever is pulled, but will not also lift up to allow even better access unless the seat base is orientated sufficiently to the rear. This stops the headrests hitting the top of the windscreen.
