Hi Guys,

My 1999 CLK has a naff set of aftermarket wheel from the last owner, I want to bring it back to more of an OE look. I have been offered a set of 17 inch AMG alloys with a 42 offset. Part No. 124 401 0302. Could anyone tell me if these are the correct fitment for my car?

Many thanks Ross

Thanks... JON

Do check to see if your wheels are 12mm or 14mm bolts, if they are 12mm you could have to get special adaptors and bolts if you buy 14mm wheels.

thanks, does 5mm matter?

Thanks for that guys would 5mm wheel offset cause problems?, the ones I am looking at are 42mm yet the wheel matrix states 37mm?

Regarding the car (99 230k) it is great, the only gripe I have is that it is a bit on the noisy side, especially tire roar on wide 18 inch alloys, hence looking at changing to more standard 17's. The only other thing is the auto gearchange isnt the smoothest. On the plus side, it feels well built, and is great to drive (As long as you turn the stereo up). If your looking for a classy car then go for it, if you want a sports car look elsewhere.

Cheers

5mm should be OK.

Re the gearbox, dont forget that the sealed for life is no more, the fluid should be changed at 60k miles now, this normally gives a big improvement in the changes.

Hi rossclifford.
What other noises do you get from the CLK. Mine has an annoying whine when pulling away in 1st gear . Seems to disappear as soon as any speed (10mph+) is reached. If I rev the engine in netural a get the same whine , appears to be coming from the turbo

I dont really notice a whine other that the supercharger, and that isnt too intrusive to me. My main issue is road noise.

Hi Ross,
I was writing because i read your entry and I thought that i might be able to help you .... I just took rims off of my friends 2005 clk 500 the OE fitment is 17 7.5 in the front and 17 8.5 in the rear and the offsets are 30/37 I am selling them for a good bargain, it might make your journey back to OE a little more pleasant. If you are interested feel free to e-mail me at
