Just bought 2102 W231 from MB dealership. I asked to update the COMMAND but the dealership wanted £150. Today I took delivery of the car and this evening I noticed the COMMAND Version is 2012 ie previous owner never asked for the free 3 years map updates. Car is under MB extended warranty. Is it possible to claim a free update from Mercedes Benz now the car is 6 years old? Anyone has similar experience please?

Thank you

Worth a try I suppose, I have read that the updates should be done at service butis rarely so.

I had mine done on Thursday and it took 2 hours to update the maps, mine has NTG 5.2

I think they refuse, its your job to ask for them.
But if you went to the MB dealer who did the services, you might be able to embarrass them into doing it .. but I doubt it very much.

Unfortunately free updates are only during the first 3 years from when the car was new so if the owner at the time didn't request them then i'm afraid that's that.

I would imagine the dealers try to dodge the issue even during the free 3 year period, updates take 1.5 to 2 hrs dependant on the method used. I’ve just updated my NTG4.5 myself using the USB port and it still took well over the hour to complete and I had to run the vehicle for half that time as COMAND kept shutting down so a bit of a faff really. Nice to be up to date though

I know a few guys that work for MB dealers.
Before I bought my car I rang them and told them what I was getting and that it was coming up to 3 years old, also that the previous owner was going to get it serviced at MB before I take it.
Both of them told me to tell the seller to demand they update the command as it is free for 3 years and there is no way I will get it done after. The reason as stated in one of your previous comments is that it does take well over an hour and if you dont ask for it, they dont have to do it.
I got mine done, but I would have never known that it was only free for 3 years, unless I was told.

the dealership wanted £150.

you own a Mercedes now.... give it 6 months and you'll think 150 is nothing, it'll be 600 a week soon enough

I wouldn't mind paying £150. But I would only do it every 3 years, or when i notice the roads are missing.
