Hi all, I bought a W203 Coupe 2004 model two months ago, and I got an SRS issue already, I bought a Carly scanner, and i scanned the car to find out that it has over 20 issues (Current and stored), I went to the nearest mechanic and he told me that there's nothing he can do about it, "it's too complicated" he said. I looked everywhere on the internet, but I couldn't find anyone who had the same issues as me, so I am here asking for your help.
The errors that are active and can't be erased are the following:
- 9123 The resistance value in the ignition circuit containing component R12/14 (Driver airbag ignition squib 2) is too high. Observe the TIPS documents for symptom diagnosis during warranty and goodwill work.
- 9183 The resistance value in the ignition circuit containing component R12/1 (Driver ETR ignition squib) is too high. Note: On vehicles with special equipment 'PRE-SAFE', component R46 (Driver buckle ETR squib) is installed instead of component R12/1 (Driver ETR ignition squib).
- 92A3 The resistance value in the ignition circuit containing component R12/22 (Left rear window airbag ignition squib) is too high.
- 907B The codes (right-hand or left-hand drive) stored in control modules N2/7 (Restraint systems control unit) and N73 (Electronic ignition switch (EIS [EZS])) are not identical.
- 9077 VINs in control modules N2/7 (Restraint systems control unit) and N73 (EIS [EZS] control unit) are not identical. The test step for the fault code is to be performed.
Other than these airbag errors, i have ESP, SCM, UCP and CDI 2 stored errors.
I would really appreciate any help I could get.
Thank you in advance.

Sounds like someone has changed the SRS controller and not had it coded to the vehicle. You'll need someone with Star to fix this.
Where are you. We may be able to suggest someone.

could be LK provided SRS faults are first pending.
Seems odd these codes have cropped us as late as 2 months.
OP were these always present.
Ditch your mechanic and find yourself a MB indy.
Dont waste your time scanning codes and bot knowing what they mean - only to trouble yourself with google diags.
A good MB indy will have you sorted in no time at all.

Hi, thank you for the response, I live in the north of France, I believe you're in the US or the UK? Anyway, I will try to check Mercedes specialists or a dealership to see what they will say. Thank you again.

Thank you for the help. Yeah definitely, the guy who sold me the car was probably not too honest... And can I ask you what "MB indy" mean?

MB Indy refers to an independent Mercedes specialist garage - usually trained by Mercedes back in the day - they’ve then setup on their own and provide expert service at usually 1/2 to 2/3 the cost of a main dealer.

The other benefit is that they’ll probably have been trained on your Mercedes when it was new - the techs in the dealers now are only trained on the new ones so taking an older Mercedes to a main dealer isn’t usually the expert experience you’d expect…

I'm UK based most of the time, Charente Maritime the rest of it.
Depending where you are and what the Indy's are like near you it might be worth a quick cross channel trip to one of the ones we recommend. AMF in Tonbridge Wells for example or MBS in Southampton.

Okay, I will see the Indy's near me, and if no one is able to fix the issue, I may cross to your side of the channel. Thank you a lot for your help!

A little update on the matter, I couldn't find an MB Indy around my town, so I went to the nearest MB dealer, they did a diagnostic and said that the issue is in the airbag module, the VIN number programmed on it is not the same as the car's one, so it should be replaced by a new one, they said there's no way to reprogram the thing, and it's a 1000Euros bill for it.

Ah the good old Main Dealer response.

If in doubt throw parts at it, and charge the customer.

Probably no guarantee that would fix it.

MB dealer is using a legitemate version of Xentry. Once a vin is programmed is into a new module, its coded. There is no function for the main dealer to recode the module or change the vin. The modules come in a "virgin" state.

Its possible to change this or re-code using aftermarket equiptment or different coding practises using alternative methods, but the dealer will not have access to this.

It should be possible with developer mode to find the part in the EZS where it does the ViN check and change “Ja” to “Nein”. I’ve done it with E class many many times. I don’t think I’ve done a C class, but I can’t see it being any different

Agreed. On later cars it can be programmed through dev mode aswell
