Hi All,

While browsing ebay last night, I came across this guy selling the 38 pin-to-serial cables for linking the data port on the car to a laptop. The url is:

http://cgi.ebay.ie/Mercedes-Benz-38...itemZ7995374098QQcategoryZ30921QQcmdZViewItem

What software would I need to be able to read fault codes etc? Does anyone know of anywhere that you can get such software at a reasonable cost? Or is this another useless EBAY item like the DAS keys mentioned nearby?

Fran,

I doubt if the cable would be of much use without the appripriote software, as it is this software that costs so much.

Yep, my thoughts exactly. Although there is at least one free piece of software on the net.

However, Do you still need another piece of hardware to go between the socket on the car and the laptop? If some of those pins give a voltage readout, I wouldn't fancy connecting the cable directly to the laptop!
