I would like to top-up the oil level in my cars rear differential but am unsure what I should use.

What spec sheet should it conform to? And what viscosity?

Many thanks - The car is a 1999 W210 E220CDI. Chassis# WDB2100062A927123

Just any 80 to 85 EPS will do the job, the top vent should be cleaned, there is no special oil. The filler side plug can be tight.

It's very unlikely that you'll need to top up but if you're going to the trouble of getting to the level plug why not just do a full change anyway, it's fairly simple job.

Just to add to previous posts... the amount is small (just over 1 litre from memory) so a full change won't break the bank.
One word of warning - undo the filler plug BEFORE undoing the drain plug. You really don't want to be left with no way to get oil into the diff when you just drained it all out!
