Hi all

I have a 1994 E280T, a 2004 W215 CL600 (probably the best in the UK) and a 2012 W216 CL500 (spitting image of a 63).

I want to sell one of the CLs, but am in a real quandary about which one I keep. I'm not too worried about putting mileage on them because I'll use the W124 quite a lot. The 2012 has 70K and the 2004 has 62K. Both are in superb condition.

The 216 has been mapped by Acid at MSL and has 500BHP with 623lb/ft torque and it feels like raw power (I like). Lord knows what the 215 has as I don't think anyone really knows. I was thinking of sticking it onto a dyno to find out, but MB say it has 493BHP and about 590lb/ft torque I think. It feels like an electric car the way it delivers the power (I also like, but in a different way)

We also have an 2013 SLK55 which also may be sold as we don't use it.

I really don't know which way to go - keep the 216 or the 215.

It's a nice quandary to have. I'd probably part with the older CL600 myself and keep the later CL500, especially as its had Acid's work done on it.

As above, I’d get rid of the 600 only because both are very complicated so running costs won’t have much in it and therefore it makes sense to keep the 500.

Now, now Rus....calm down :p
No, let Helen reply, maybe I could sneak it past management replacing my SLK280 - I tried when looking to replace the 968 cab, but as soon as I mentioned the power of the 55 it was MIL diet and total ban!!

Never, never give out power details.....Vanity mirrors, lipstick holders and self parking and reversing modes are all that is required Chris

Keep the 600 Helen, it’ll be the better car longer term and is going to be appreciating over the years, especially if it’s a well spec’d one

It's a good spec, I think it's about 60K miles, excellent condition and full history. Silver with black interior.

Can't attach photos as the files are too big.

This really is a tough decision, hence being after other members viewpoints. The 215 looks absolutely stunning from the side and 3/4 view, but it has the suspension and coil pack issues. I didn't fall in love with it at first and bought it on a whim, but the more i drive it, the more it grows on me.

The 216 looks a bit boring in relation to the 215, but it's more reliable and goes like the proverbial stabbed rat. I think it may well do 60 in 4 seconds, which for a 2 tonne car is phenomenal. I love the 216 because of the sound and how it makes me feel, but the 215 is lovely to drive and has even more tuning potential.

I don't want to keep both.

If you screenshot them with your phone you should be able to upload.

There were a limited number of SL215 600 built, it is a better looking car than the CL216. Purely as an investment it is the one to keep. The 216 is a more reliable prospect & probably quicker. Which one gives you more pleasure overall ?

And this is exactly the quandary I have. They both give me a huge amount of pleasure in different ways. The 216 is like a very comfortable rocket ship (I meant to type 520BHP in the original post) and the 215 is so gentle and serene but goes like stink. 216 is more economical by about 10MPG, but I don't do too many miles.

Even with Coil Pack and suspension issues?
Coil packs arent usually the problem. Its the high voltage converter ECU that fails. ABC is ABC. If its regularly serviced then why worry?

If the high voltage converter fails, does it prevent the V12 from turning over when trying to start it Steve?
