DVLA's V5 document warning

This has come up a few times and several members have suggested it should be made a "sticky".

The DVLA reported back in August 2008 that a series of V5 Documents that had supposedly gone for destruction, were resurfacing "attached" to cloned cars.

This latest warning concerns logbooks numbered BG8229501 to BG9999030 and B12305501 to B12800000. The serial number is located in the top left of the document and buyers should immediately contact the DVLA if they see an affected logbook.

So if you are buying a used car it may just pay to check the serial number on the V5 to be safe...

Easier way to identify if it is one of the stolen v5s is:

The stolen certificates have a different background colour on the Notification of Permanent Export (V5C/4) tear off slip on the second page, which looks mauve on the front and pink on the reverse. On legitimate documents they should be mauve on both sides.
