I am struggling to find a good independent to replace the crank seal on my 2012 E Class estate - requires the gear box and T/C to be removed in order to do it and too much for some small independents. Main dealer asking a lot of money.
Does anyone have a recommendation where I may be able to get this done, either Aberdeen or Edinburgh ? Many thanks in advance, Simon.

Are you sure it’s not the oil cooler seals that leak down the back of the engine onto the gearbox ?

I'm pretty certain it is the crank seal - the mechanic who normally does the cars for us (who doesn't have the capability in his workshop of removing the gearbox) cleaned everything up and took a photo (which has disappeared off my phone). I'm seeing him on Thursday so will double check, thank you.

Yes been there and got the tea shirt the oil cooler leak does come down the back of the block and could easily be mistaken for the rear crankcase seal

This video gives a good insight, I think.

Wighty, many thanks for the steer on this. Having discussed further with a couple of mechanics who won't take this on, as well as a gearbox specialist up here, going to have the oil cooler done (along with all the bits suggested by grayb in his excellent video) in a week or so; have the gearbox guy lined up to do the crank seal if necessary. Cheers for now.
