E350 Bluetec W212-Oil leaks

Enjoying the same on mine - unfortunately, the gearbox was removed before the source of the leak was correctly identified... Needed the car for a skiing holiday - this bill is more expensive than four of us for a week...
For future ref, I have never done a rear main seal on a om642 and its always leaking above the gearbox and down.

Worth knowing - thanks. Have to say, I've had 100k miles from the wagon, and aside form a MAF hit it's been a dream. So I don't blame the machine. Just wonder why a 'servicable' part costing £110 needs ten hours labour to sort out. Not what I expect from MB engineering.

Jesus buddy ! I feel your pain .
It’s a really well know issue on the om642 , any MB specialist would have known that over the phone (and a lot of people on these MB forums )

I understand where your coming from, but I wouldn't classify an internal seal as a serviceable part. It's obviously a design flaw with the size of the cooler vs seal area but every platform has its common issue.

This is not so bad compared to the high number of common issues on the om651 engine.

Would you know where I could find a list of them? Mine's been pretty reliable so far, but it would be good to know what to keep an eye on!
