Hello, I have a 2001 C320 with electric seat and steering wheel adjustment.

With the buttons on the door I can make the steering wheel go in and out.. but when I flick the button up or down the motor makes a noise but the steering wheel does not go up or down, it looks to be down as low as it can go at the moment.. making it hard to see the spedo etc.

Is this broken or am I missing something?

Thanks for any info.

If you're moving the steering wheel adjuster up and down and can hear the motor working, but the wheel doesn't move then it sounds to me as if it's broken.

yeah it does doesnt it.. perhaps I will try a reset to factory defaults, give me a chance to set up all the electronics as I want anyhow.

Question.. if the adjustment is electronic.. is there any manual way of adjusting this?

If the motor is whirring but the wheel isn't moving it sounds like more than an electronic problem. More likely something has broken or come adrift. You could try pressing the up button whilst lifting the wheel slightly and see if it bites - perhaps it's come off the thread?

Yeah it does doesnt it. Bugger!.. not the way I wanted to start off my relationship with Mercedes Benz. I was so careful to check the car as well, but did not test all the electronics out as I didnt even know half of them were available until I read the manual.

I have tried to knudge the column up whilst hitting the switch.. nothing.
Off to make friends with the local MB dealer..

sometimes I wish for manual adjustment!

I think there is a rubber drive between the motor and the spiral worm drive thats shaped like a bone. this is known to snap, esp if the button is held on too long.

would that be the sort of thing that is possible to fix without going into factory. I have not even had a look at it as yet.. just wondered?

its quite a job to get to, you have to lower the steering column and detach the motor,

Hi Star.. .many thanks for your reply.

I will put a post up asking how to do this as I am finding it really difficult to drive with. .. shame as the rest of the car is in such great nic... I am chuffed with my purchase.

I see you are in the trade... am I talking hundreds to get this issue fixed at a garage? ... and once the motor is off.. can you get into it to fix... or is it a new motor?
Thanks for any ball park figure or further info.
