Hi,

Since having my car recently serviced I have had the warning light on saying ‘Engine oil level, stop vehicle, switch engine off’. I have had the sensor changed by a local garage and oil level checked, but it still has the same fault. It does not come on immediately when starting the car but always by the end of my street so once I have picked up a bit of speed. Garage are out of ideas and have said take it to Mercedes. Annoyingly already cost me nearly £200. Any ideas much appreciated.

I assume oil level was ok.
If it’s on the high side some Mercs don’t like that with oils like Mobil 1 which expand a lot so could be giving a high reading.
Got to a proper merc Indy. 200 wasted already ain’t pennies

If you want to pop it in Star I'm in Daventry. Not sure what we would see but happy to take a look.

all this... for the sake of a dipstick and some common .. at those costs and that hassle i would consider drain, fill to mb recc qty. dip with a flex curtain net cable mark that with lovelies nail varnish and carry on . i would not be chucking £200+ at a problem created by shite tech. this about £3 i have another marked for clk and a class tranny. it is of course possible that service guys overfilled if thats suspected .dump the oil and fill to mb book refill qty less half lit for filter. then see if electricky decide to behave DSC_0040.JPG

Alternatively, drain oil completely then gradually refill till elecktrickery says it full or stops mis behaving.
Such a pain not having a dipstick or even a hole to put one in to.

Maybe there is one on the A class. I was speaking generally, I should have said sometimes not even hole to put one in.

ok. there was on my r230 and a nice surprise there is one on my W166 but with the todays aggro of when to check it. ref other models i dont know for sure myself but was working on the theory that there is at least the dipstick tube as the modern thing seems to be sucking the dirty oil up thru this. if not i wonder from where this is done .however benz will never surprise me with the unnecessary reinvention of the simplest of things to in my view create a revenue stream from a place where none existed or was needed before.

There's not one on my early R230 but I believe some applications of the M113 had a tube at the front.
