Mercedes C220 CDI
Hello,

I have got a Mercedes C220 CDI on a 2002, with the 2148cc engine.

The fault 'EPC error visit workshop' came up on the dashboard when the engine cut out on acceleration.

The engine started up again with no problems and it has not done that since.

The other problem, it has become hard to start the engine sometimes in the morning, or if the vehicle has been standing for approx 8 hours, but will start and run without any problems.

Has anyone here come across this issue and know if its a common issue and how to fix it.

Thanks for any help / information you can give.

Sounds identical to mine at the moment, although my warning message hasn't come back on.

Probably best to have it plugged in to STAR for some fault codes.

Hi again,

The problem returned while driving the car!

This message came up on the display - EL Power Control, visit workshop. EPC.

The engine cut out while accelerating and above message came up. Engine restarted with no problem.

Thanks for any reply.

You have an injector or 2 with high leak off/worn nozzles. EPC warning is coming on as the rail pressure is dropping below 150bar on throttle. You need a leak off test to determine which ones are faulty.

Update on the vehicle.

I have had a check done on the injectors, having the leak off check done at a Mercedes specialist where I live.

They said there are NO issues with the leak off and it seems I have had a new injector fitted at some point (I haven't had the car long).

What they did say is the fuel filter looks old and they are going to replace this when car goes back in, and they are ordering new 'O' rings to as they said these are another common issue where they allow air to leak into the system.

They did do a diagnostic on the vehicle and had a few faults stored, unfortunately I can not remember what they are, but they cleared these using the MB Star, but luckily the fault did return and hopefully stored the fault in the ECU and only one fault will be present so to ping point the issue (hopefully).

I will keep you updated on this, and hopefully get to the bottom of the issue.

Thanks again for all the help.

sometimes fuel lines O rings give up and air get in fuel sistem , to buy them all of them its around £10 from MB and is very easy to change them ur self

I hope they did a hard throttle leak off as well as one with the engine idling. As your fault is when you accelerate this would need to be done.

Hi again.

This is an update of the vehice.

Had to call the AA out as the car refused to start.

After looking around the vehicle for well over an hour, looked under the engine cover, fuel was rushing out of the high pressure pump!

So the vehicle is now at the diesel specialist to look and recon the pump!

Hopefully this will cure the all above issues and have trouble free motoring (hopefully).

Thanks again for all the help and I'll update you when I get the car back to see if it's fixed all the issues.

A healthy common rail diseasel should start almost instantly, long cranking times should not be ignored.

Thanks Taffy. One thing I never have with this Merc is long cranking. It is without doubt the most instant starting I have ever had. My Peugeot 206 now showing engine light and Anti-pollution fault. I just ordered a KlavKarr 200 so I can sort such things out myself as the garages in Espanol wring their hands in delighted expectation when I pitch up.!

Problem solved. I took my car out for a run yesterday and on returning the EPC fault desappeared?

EPC warning again after nearly 3 months. Vehicle still drives ok. Strange- maybe just a faulty sensor?
