Hi everyone! Just joined tonight.

A few years ago I had a 2014 B Class, liked it so acquired a new one in September.

This time went for a new 2020 B200 Sport. Not as sure about this one and I’m looking to see what others think of it. Seems to get a bit of a bad press on forums yet the expert reviews for the car are pretty positive.

Enjoying exploring your forum. Thanks for having me!!

Welcome I have driven a few B200's as loan cars while mine was being serviced. I quite liked it particularly the hatchback set up.
What don't you like about yours?

Hi,
I think it’s mainly the gearbox that I’m not sure of. Driven many auto boxes over the years and think I was expecting this to be first class but I’m not sure mine is? Seems really slow to react at roundabouts when you’re pulling away, much more of a lag than I thought there would be. I’ll be interested to see what other owners think of it. There’s just a few niggles that I suspect might annoy me a bit over time

Our old 2010 SLK200K 5 speed was a bit slow to go down 2 gears in a hurry, but I have never had a problem with my E350CDI with the 7 speed box. I assume yours is the 7 speed? Go back to the dealer there are setting they can change, if its a problem it needs recording as early as possible.

Am I right in thinking the B Class has a DCT box rather than torque converter? They can be a bit slow to engage but there is a technique. On Mrs L's Mini, I start the car moving very slowly just before I want to actually go and then it seems quicker to respond.

Also worth switching the gearbox from C to S mode, the pick up is so much quicker, unfortunately it does default back to C mode next time you switch the car on

Yes 7G-DCT (wet clutch) Manual gearbox with electro-mech control. Driving style needs adapting, classic mistakes include crawling up to junctions, up gradients, too close to the vehicle in front in slow moving traffic.:)

It’s quite a difference and definitely responds much quicker in Sport mode. As @phillj mentions above perhaps I need to adapt my driving style to suit. All the autos I’ve driven previously have been diesels, this is a petrol so acts differently. I’ll get used to it eventually

Yep, adapting your driving style for the particular box will make the experience better, my last car was a Peugeot 508 RXH and had a EGC box (electronic changes on a manual box) which took a lot of getting used to to get smooth changes, but once I did it was surprisingly a nice place to be
