I have just ordered a CLS320 (without the tarty AMG pack) and I wanted to know whether I will get respectable looking twin exhaust pipes or do I get a weedy little peashooter? Does it look down at the road apologetically?

The CLS 320 has twin exhausts straight out the back. What size wheels have you gone for?

I think that I am right in saying that it is only the full AMG car that has all of the tail pipes, body kits do not include this. I have today been looking a sl with amg body and only 2 pipes as apposed to the 4 for the SL55

Ah what a relief! Are they chrome looking?

I have gone for the 5 spoke 18"ers. I thought the standard 17s were a bit puny.

On the 'E' you only get them on the Sport or AMG kitted car, but they are chrome oval jobbies, about 3-4 inches across. Good choice of wheel. Watch those kerbs

Yes I know what you mean. I have a BMW 330ci that is being sent back after 30k miles and the alloys are not exactly in 'showroom condition'.

Does anyone know what the standard exhaust pipes look like on the CLS320?

IMHO although the 18"s look good they do nothing for the handling

Really? We took a new E320 out for a day with 18s and Airmatic and thought the ride / Handling balance was superb. Horses for courses I guess.

That's are hard one Bobcat, I think that you will find that you corner better at speed,if you go round at 145 mph on 18" you would find it hard to better 125 on 17" The ride is the worst thing with 18" as apposed to 17" even on the SL with air suspension it make the ride hard, feeling every matchstick ;)

I should have been slightly less succint in my posting. IMHO 18" wheels do nothing for the comfort and handling on the real world roads we have to drive on in this country. Whilst first driving the car you are overawed with the whole experience. The banging from pothole to pothole and tramlining in the wet soon start to spoil the experience (ask a BMW or Mini Cooper S driver). It becomes something you have to put up with, when with a smaller rim to start with you would never have the problem.
I can honestly say I have never had a problem with the handling with my tiny 16" wheels all the way up to 145mph.

Let's be honest, the only reason anyone stumps up the extra money for bigger wheels is because they look better. Anything else is just blokes justification.

Anyway about those exhuast pipes on the 320...

Your are correct, a good garage owner friend said to me a few weeks ago that anyone who drives so fast as to tell the difference should not be driving on the road, and I uphold that.

Here are some pictures showing the exhausts and the 18" rims.

The company car tax makes a compelling argument for the diesel. I have always been a devout petrol head but you can't argue with a £100 per month tax saving. I give the goverment enough already.

If you have the option to come out of your company car scheme and you fill in the boxes correctly the tax man actually sends you money :D :D :D

Is that the machine guns behind the number plate option?

Seriously, I did look at opting out but decided to do it next time. I have a phobia of filling out forms!
