Hi. My first post having recently acquired a C240 Sport with a temperamental gearbox that seems to shift when it wants!!
Does anyone know any way I can find out what spec my car left the factory in?? I guess I am looking for a URL.
It has a bodykit (standard I believe) 17" AMG's (optional I guess but I am sure I read somewhere that on the Sport they were standard??) and an AMG badge on the boot which is frankly embarrasing (being unable to back it up)
Any help much appreciated
Regards
Doug

HI Malcolm. Gbox is very vague. Seems to decide on its own when it feels like changing. Judder at junctions when slowing to stop. Seems to drop into 1st. Have been told by 2 independent dealers that rebuild is required so guess I will be biting the bullet soon.

Don't forget that the dreaded radiator affect certain C240 models what are the first 6 numbers of the VIN.

Its OK you do not have the dreaded radiator problem, re the box, nothing listed for the way you describe it, there are several fault codes, including a limp home mode (could be why it drops to first),, Why not let a gearbox specialist read them, it may not be as bad as you think.

The gearbox oil cooler is built into the colant radiator, so the coolant warms the oil quicker from start, then cools it when hot. Sometimes the sealing fails, then you end up with the two fluids mixing, which can quickly wreck your box.

I have already checked it out, it only applies to the 203 cars up to 30.09.03.

Lve it. What a knowledgable chap you are. And isn't this what forums are really for. A problem arises, questions posed, and an informative answer emerges.

How many miles has the car done and what year is it?

Hi hawk20. Miles say 83k on a 97(R) plate. Unsure as to how genuine this mileage is. Apols for responding earlier but very busy hence no progress on the box
