Faulty Digital Milometer

My son took his A Class to WeBuyAnyCar this morning and was actually offered £1,000 more than anywhere else had offered him so he was just about to sort out the deal when it flagged up that his mileage readings are all over the place. I'm sure it will all get sorted out but why the person who did the MOT or the garage that services the car hasn't picked up that the mileage reading has gone down since the last MOT I really don't know. The 2023 reading is correct but I'm wondering if they put the wrong number down last year, bit of a mystery!

Looks like they put 79k instead of 69k.

I have a simulate saga on the SL
An mot earlier in its life stated 30,000. I think it was just someone being lazy and forgot the reading so put in 30K then promptly forgot about it!
The next mot was something like 29K

Have you a service invoice showing the correct (at the time) mileage from 2022?
I know most of us never check the mileage noted on the MOT, but this shows it does pay to check before filing it away.

Good point, I just asked him and he couldn't find the 2022 invoice when he was sorting through all the paperwork. A phone call to the garage that did the service resulted in him getting a copy which has the mileage down as Zero, so I'm guessing they didn't fill that bit in, not very impressed

Same here - MOT guy mistook a 6 for a 0. I only noticed at next MOT.

And these are checking over our cars, giving advisories for plastic covers fitted, heavily waxoiled, windscreen wash low, baby seat fitted........really hi technical experts

M.o.t is just bollxxxs anyway. Legally only accutrat at min of test I used to do them! Can't move plastic covers that hide brake pipes and corrosion. What's the f point, just money. Worthless 10 yards down road. In France near same cash, 2 yrs. They keep trying to bring that in to UK, lots of screaming....

In the old days when I did tests, we had a picking hammer and a screwdriver. It was used to help check chassis rails and floor pans. There weren't any plastic coverings or baby seats to confuse these so called inspector's and no advisories that I can remember. We did did proper inspections

Well so far today my son's had no success sorting the issue out. The garage that did the service and MOT are issuing a letter saying they made an error but said he had to phone some government department to confirm this would be enough. When he phoned them they said they can't do anything without some sort of proof of the mileage so I have no idea how this is going to work out!

Can't seem to find one, seems no one wants to know. The garage who filled out the MOT with the incorrect mileage have admitted it was their mistake but that's as far as they want to get involved. My son had to sell his A Class today as he'd paid a deposit on another car, which I guess was non refundable, so he took a hit of £1,700 thanks to the numpty who didn't do his job properly!

There's ur toll station, it's a crxp deal. Hindsight is great. Lesson here don't leave mot station without confirming all details as correct. Preferably before you pay for test. Sorrio 1700 not small many. Not to me anyway.
