just had my e63 amg 2012 for a b service.
its come back with rattles in the gear box.the bearings in there( i presume gearbox)sound very dry and i get a low rumble as if the exhaust is hitting under the car a little.then after 5 - 10 seconds it goes away.
how many litres of oil should be put back in the gear box ?
and does anybody know what the sounds could be?
when the cars in neautral and i push the park button,i hear a shaft moving and it clicks.and then when i put it into netural again i hear the shaft moving i presume in the other direction.i have never heard this shaft move before.
very worried.
any advise ?
thanks

Does the 'B' service include ATF change?

If it has just been serviced take it back and voice your concerns to whoever did it

the guy also bought some ngk spark plugs as per the catalogue number.fitted them.give me the car back.when i got to drive it after the missis brought it home, the car was missing like hell.
i took the car back.the spark plugs weren't even the same diameter on the porcelain.the gap was 1mm.the old gap was .6.they didnt fit in the spark plug holder correctly.but he still fitted them.
we put the old ones back in and that was then fixed to original state.
this is what im up agaist.
i have started the car this morning and it sounds like theres no oil in the box.i can hear a shaft turning.it sounds rough/ vibrating.and sounds dry.
what could go wrong changing the gearbox oil? and what shaft turns when stationary ?
thanks

I wouldn't drive it, I assume this wasn't serviced at a Mercedes dealer then?

^+1, I certainly wouldn't drive it in until it's had an expert look at it. If it's the 7 speed gearbox which I think it is, the oil service requires a specialist garage or MB

Hope you soon get sorted out, the best way to do this is to talk to a local MB specialist and it will probably need to be trailered to their premises

if you just had it serviced get them to confirm what they actual did, charged you for, then email yr concerns and keep a hard copy , then check there is oil in the gearbox, doubt they could drain it and not refill as auto box wont move much under such circumstances, but it could have insufficient oil in it . dont reccomend you drive it till you know for sure . if all else fails go ,with another motor to wilko and get a 2m length of flexible curtain wire, normally plastic coated white. remove the seal/top of yr auto trans filler and gently insert the curtain wire until it bottoms out , pull out and look, whilst i dont know the exact depth of oil on that model ,it will at least establish that there is some in there!! if there is not. get a witness ,then get hold of the dealer manager and go from there. suspect someone on this forum may be able to advise the dip depth of oil required on this model .

This box hold 9 litres of fluid, many indies measure this out first.
