Hi,
well I tried again this morning & limp home still there so its not down to stored fault codes as MB dealer & MB TECH suggested but at £20 it was worth a try.
MB TECH did say that they would replace the Electrics pack in the gearbox at £280+vat inc gearbox oil & filter & switch etc.
Then if that doesn't work try the gear selector which will be quite a bit more expensive.
So to sum up.... I'm on short time at work with a bleek outlook so its up for sale at whatever I can get.

One thing I don't get is why it was ok yesterday 4 hours after we returned,
but back to normal this morning?

These are some Listed faults to be in the limp home mode.

Code 114 shift rod incorrectly adjusted
Code 002 to 007 possible defective ETC

This is the interesting one, and was one of my first ever post and it went on for 40 pages, but it did fix the car

Code 012-013-108-109
Loose connection or contact on the ETC module.
With this fault that happened to be on a 129 owned by Rajinder, he bought the car with this fault as no one could fix it, it behaved in the same way and the clue was in the CAN signals found elsewhere.

Anyway the cure was to check the connections wher the ETC plugs into the harness, all connection were OK but made poor contact in the ECU, with a good dose of a non drying switch cleaner the fault has never come back, and that was 4 years ago and Raj still has the car .

This was on a 1999 car, and this fixed another some time after

Thanks for your time again.

As you look at the engine, right hand side, cover with 4 screws, the control unit has 2 plugs, one about 2" long 1 about 1,1/2 long!

I believe that the ECT is in the car behind the gearshift but I can check this applies more to 1999-2000 cars more that any other

Hi,
there is a module behind the gearbox under the ashtray if I remember right on mine.
In my box under the bonnet I Have checked the smaller black plastic module with the sticker saying eg something or other.
In the diagram it looks like the second one from the windscreen which is one of the larger ECU which I thought was the engine ecu.
Cheers.

Thats a large alloy ECU wth two large plugs & 1 small one in between with 2 green wires in.
Will it be ok to pull the plugs on that ie need resetting/recoding etc.
Thanks.

Yes with key out just unplug it, and yes it is the connections in the multi plug and socket, nothing to re code.

Lets keep our fingers crossed on this one

It would, but there are much better ones these days, the one you have is just a basic cleaner as it says on the tin, the newer ones are non drying leaving a much better electrical contact that last
