I may need a new / recon / refurb gearbox (or mine just fixed) for my W210 300TD 1997. I am looking to save as much £££ as possible as I have just spent £1800 on engine problems.

I have an RPM input/output fault in the valve block.

What's the cheapest way to solve this without having subsequent issues at a later date?

thanks guys!

I thought that. but several people have said it may be a wasted exercise because the fault may be in the gearbox and just picked up by the sensors in the valve block. Does this sound right? I know nothing about gearboxes!

Where's the best place for a second hand valve block anyway?

thanks

A new one is not that expensive. Quote your chassis number to a MB dealer parts dept and they will give you a price.

Most second hand parts come with a warranty so if it is a bad part you have bought send it back.

Try www.partsgateway.co.uk

Really just change the valve block, where did you get the test done

Test was done at Stuttgart Garages in Pontypridd, using a 'plug in' diagnostics.

What they have said they can do is take the valve block out, give it a 'service', clean the sensors etc etc. Then do a gearbox ATF refill and service.

I'd like to think I may get a few more miles out of it that way rather than a valve block replacement

All I say is find out the new price of the block, its easy to fit.

Do analyze any dirt or debri in the block, one I had box with the valve block gone, it went again due to the fact that the cassing was breaking up and casing the block to stick

I have put this info here from another thread to keep it up to date

*****************************************
My car is now back on the road! New injector pump, new control plate on the valve block, new aux belt tensioner and pulley, new alternator clutch and a few other bits and bobs. Car runs lovely now, and has started without fault. One small issue though... the engine sounds a bit noisy - I believe it's the lifters tapping away. A bit annoying as after all the cash I've spent on the car recently, I would like to have a 'quiet' running engine.

Is there any benefit to replacing the lifters other than noise reduction?
