Well hello from a very cold and rainy Oldham. Lancashire.

I've got myself a C220SE Coupe Cdi from 2006, and am REALLY pleased that I've finally bought a Merc!

I've been all round it last week, checking this and that - I've finally got the oil level checked (and it's OK).
I can't get my head round the fact that the car shows "!0,700 miles " to next service - I'm trying to read up in the owners book and a Haynes manual that I've got - does the car itself decide when the oil and filter are next due for a change?

Also the mysterious question of "what oil to use". But doubtless that will be elsewhere on the forum.

That's about it for now,

All the best,

Stompbox

Hi buddy . What mileage has the old girl got ? Worth looking into getting the ATF oil and filter changed every 40k miles as well if she's a keeper .

Hi and thanks to Wighty for the comment on the Transmission fluid and filter.
My car has 97k on the clock and I've got a fair amount of service history and documentation with Mercedes garages stamps up to August 2015. but I have looked all the way though the service book and NO has been ticked against "Oil- Automatic Transmission" in every instance.
Is it an expensive job - or one that the "Home Mechanic" might tackle?
Thanks,

Stompbox.

It is probably a touch under £200 for a decent MB independent to do the job . Update where you live so members can recommend a decent Indy in your area .
It is a DIY job as well , I'm no expert but managed it in the 5g gearbox (which I think is the one you have)
You may get the cost down to £80 all in if you DIY it . There is a lot on YouTube with searches like "722.6 gearbox oil change" .
If you have a gearbox dipstick in the engine bay , you have a 5g gearbox (722.6) . If the tab on the cap is red then the ATF "may" have been changed ( it may just have had the level checked and the tab replaced ) the factory tab on the cap is black .

There are some excellent ATF change instructions in the forums DIY section as well

These have been mentioned in a reasonable way in the past....

Thanks for the info on the garage in Radcliffe - I've updated my profile details to include my location now - I'm in Royton, near Oldham, Lancashire, so Radcliffe is really pretty diametrically opposed to me on the other side f Manchester - is there an other nearer independent - or is there a section on this site where there are lists of garages?

Hello and welcome, Stompbox.

I recently paid £180 for an Auto Transmission service which includes the fluid, gasket oil filter. This was done by Mercland - a well known independent in Nuneaton.
